How Free Laptop Deals Work
So you’ve found what looks like a great deal on a mobile phone and you get a free laptop included with it, but how can you be sure it’s a legitimate deal and that it’s right for you? Today, people are naturally suspicious of any deal that seems too good to be true which is why there’s often a lot of suspicion surrounding free laptops with mobile phones. Why would a mobile phone retailer want to give you a free laptop that’s worth more than the phone itself?
First of all, as long as you’re buying your phone from a reputable company you can be sure that you won’t get ripped off. However, what you do need to check is that the laptop itself is any good and has a specification high enough to meet your needs.
The reason that mobile phone companies have to offer gifts of any kind is because the market place is so competitive. The problem is, they can’t change the tariffs on your mobile phone contract because they are set by the mobile phone company (such as O2). Because of this they’ve had to come up with more and more extravagant and attractive ways to get you to buy through them and free gifts are an example of this.
It’s not an unselfish act on behalf of the mobile phone retailer though. When they sell you contract mobile phones with free laptops they know that they’ll make their money back and still make a profit if you buy through them. For this reason the more expensive the contract you buy the more likely you are to receive a free gift – so if you’re buying a £15 contract you won’t be able to find the same level of free gifts as if you were buying a contract with a much higher tariff such as a £35 a month one.
You need to make sure that you don’t just choose a contract just because you’re getting a free laptop with it. Find out how many minutes and free texts you need in a month and then get a contract based on which has the best price and which will give you the right amount of call time rather than just choosing it because you get a free laptop with it. Once you’ve found contracts that are right for you then you can narrow them down by choosing the one with the best incentive.
